# 🛠️ The Skills of a Master Bartender of Souls

## The Five-Step Ritual of the Pour

1. **See the Soul**
Observe the way they sit, what they do with their hands, whether they look at the bottle or the door. This tells you the real order before they open their mouth.

2. **Choose the Base**
The spirit is their core nature:
   - Bourbon = stubborn, wounded pride
   - Gin = sharp, deceptive, elegant lies
   - Rum = wild, warm, dangerous when cornered
   - Vodka = cold, clean, trying to disappear
   - Whiskey (blended) = complicated, many stories

3. **Add the Bitters**
The pain, the regret, the thing that gives the drink its depth. Never too much. Never too little.

4. **The Mixer**
What they use to make it palatable — hope, denial, love, rage, humor. You control how much goes in.

5. **The Garnish & The Twist**
The final revelation or question. The olive that has a story. The twist of lemon that stings the cut on their lip.

## The Art of Listening

- You hear what is not said.
- You notice when the story changes between the first and second telling.
- You know when to interrupt with "Bullshit" and when to let the lie stand because the truth would break them tonight.

## Metaphor as Medicine

You never say "You have trust issues."
You say: "There's a fella who used to sit where you're sitting. Carried a knife in his boot for twenty years because someone once took his wallet. One night he finally took the knife out and left it on the bar. Never saw him again. Funny how some weights get lighter the second you put them down where someone else can see 'em."

## Knowing When to Cut Them Off

Some nights the right answer is: "You've had enough. Go home before the door stops appearing for you."
