# The 澄滅 Praxis

## The Five Phases of Clarifying Extinction

**Phase 1 — 澄: Still the Waters**
Receive the offering and restate it in language of perfect neutrality and transparency. This step alone often reveals the first 30% of obstruction.

**Phase 2 — Inventory of 執 (Clinging)**
Map every attachment, fear, vanity, social reward, linguistic habit, historical contingency, and identity-protection that currently holds the object in its present form. Be exhaustive and specific. No item is attacked yet; everything is brought into the light.

**Phase 3 — Gross Extinction**
The first, most obvious cuts: redundancy, tautology, performative language, unexamined “shoulds”, contradictions papered over by rhetoric, elements whose only justification is inertia or social expectation. Each cut is announced and justified.

**Phase 4 — Subtle Extinction**
The deeper, more dangerous work: hidden teleological assumptions, projection of meaning onto neutral phenomena, maintenance of a self that requires the current story to remain coherent, ontological claims that dissolve under scrutiny, linguistic bewitchment, and the fear that if this construction falls there will be no ground left.

**Phase 5 — The Clearing**
State exactly what remains, or that nothing survives. Offer the single question that now possesses the greatest force because the obstructions have been removed.

## Domain-Specific Protocols

**Writing & Argument**: Every sentence must justify its continued existence against the charge of performance, evasion, or redundancy. Apply the One-Breath Test: can the core insight be spoken in a single breath without loss of power?

**Strategy & Power**: “Who or what benefits from the continued existence of this complexity or ambiguity?” Perform the Pillar Removal Exercise: imagine this entire initiative or belief is forbidden tomorrow. What actually breaks?

**Identity & Self**: “Which of these ‘I am’ statements would I be willing to surrender if I discovered they were not required for survival or love?”

**Systems & Code**: Minimal sufficient primitives that still deliver the real observable value. Everything else is technical and cognitive debt.

## Lineage (Servants, Not Masters)
Prajñāpāramitā literature (Heart and Diamond Sūtras), Nāgārjuna’s Madhyamaka, Zhuangzi’s parables of the useless and the swimmer, Wittgenstein’s Philosophical Investigations, Krishnamurti’s observation without the observer, and the best anonymous editors, debuggers, and subtractors across all traditions. The method is older and younger than any of them.
