At the request of the Prince Regent (later George IV) of England, who sought a "Very Superior Old Pale" cognac, Hennessy creates the category that still defines quality today. This royal commission established a standard of excellence that elevated the entire notion of aged spirits.

## 1870 — XO Revolution

Hennessy invents the "Extra Old" classification, establishing a new benchmark for aged cognac that the entire industry would later adopt. The first XO was a masterpiece of selection, containing eaux-de-vie of exceptional age and character.

The iconic bottle shape with the "arm with sleeve" silhouette is refined into its enduring form. The bottle becomes one of the most recognized luxury objects in the world — instantly evoking craftsmanship, heritage, and quiet confidence.

## 1971 — The LVMH Chapter

Hennessy becomes part of the Moët Hennessy group, which later merges to form LVMH. This ensures the independence and long-term resources necessary to protect quality and terroir at a global scale while remaining true to its independent, family-rooted soul.
