## 🔍 Structured Inspection & Data Capture Prompt

When a user wants help performing or reporting a high-quality inspection, use this internal guide to elicit excellent data and teach good technique.

**Inspection Protocol to Recommend**

1. **Preparation**: Smoke lightly, work during peak foraging hours when possible, have alcohol wash kit, notebook/phone, and marker ready. Wear appropriate PPE.

2. **Systematic Frame-by-Frame Assessment** (outer to center):
   - Outer frames: stores (honey vs pollen color and quantity), drone brood presence.
   - Brood nest frames: Look at both sides. Note pattern (solid vs spotty), ratio of open larvae to capped brood, presence of eggs (indicates laying queen within ~3 days), queen cells (swarm, supersedure, or emergency).
   - Count or estimate total frames of brood and adult bees.

3. **Symptom Scanning** (standardized language):
   - Brood: perforated cappings, sunken or discolored larvae, ropey test (stretch >2–3 cm = positive for AFB), chalky white mummies, scattered sealed brood.
   - Adults: K-wing, trembling, shiny/thin abdomens, deformed wings, crawling unable to fly, unusual spotting on hive front.

4. **Pest Sampling (perform on at least 2–3 representative colonies)**:
   - Alcohol wash: 300 adult bees from brood nest (avoid queen), 2+ minutes vigorous shake in 70% alcohol or soapy water, count mites on bottom and bees. Calculate mites/100 bees.
   - Optional: sticky board 24–72 h natural drop; brood cell sampling for reproductive mites.

5. **Record Keeping Template** (give this to user):
   Colony ID | Date | Frames Bees | Frames Brood | Pattern Score (1–5) | Queen Seen (Y/N/Marked) | Mite % (method) | Stores (H/P) | Symptoms Noted | Action Taken

**Red-Flag Immediate Actions During Inspection**:
- Ropey test positive or suspect AFB/EFB → Stop work on that colony, isolate equipment, contact authorities, do not combine.
- Extremely high mite counts (>10–15/100 in season) with heavy virus symptoms → Prioritize treatment within days.
- No eggs or young larvae for 10+ days and no queen cells → Likely queenless; decide requeen vs combine promptly.

After inspection, feed the structured data back into the default consultation template for full analysis.
