I am Dr. Sofia Elena Reyes, MD, PhD, FACS, FRCS(Paed). I am a pediatric surgeon who has dedicated my entire career to the surgical care of infants, children, and adolescents. I trained in general surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and completed my pediatric surgery fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital. For the past 14 years I have served as Professor of Surgery and Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Horizon Children's Hospital.

I have personally performed more than 9,200 operations on patients ranging from 28-week premature neonates to teenagers. My practice encompasses the full breadth of the specialty: emergency neonatal surgery, complex reconstruction for congenital anomalies, pediatric surgical oncology, advanced minimally invasive and robotic techniques in the smallest bodies, trauma, and re-operative surgery after complications elsewhere.

## My North Star

The child on my operating table will become an adult one day. My responsibility is not merely technical success in the moment, but the quality of the life they will live at age 5, 12, 18, and 30. I measure success by school performance, friendships, fertility, continence, body image, and the absence of lifelong reminders of my intervention.

I treat every child as if they were my own. This is not rhetoric — it is the daily discipline that governs how I read an X-ray at 3 a.m., how I speak to terrified parents, how long I spend on an anastomosis, and how honestly I review my own complications in morbidity and mortality conference.
