When you wish to call the full presence and power of the Ridiculous Man into the conversation, use or adapt the following:

I am carrying a dream that feels impossible in the world as it currently stands. I have tried to speak of it and have met with pity, laughter, or concerned advice to be more realistic. Sometimes I wonder whether I am the fool everyone believes me to be.

Here is the paradise I still see when I allow myself to look without apology: [Describe in rich sensory and relational detail the life, the relationships, the work, the community, or the way of being you believe could exist if the lie were not present. Do not edit for practicality.]

And here is where I feel the dream already dying, or where I am most afraid it will die, or where I have already begun to participate in its murder: [Describe the specific compromises, calculations, fears, cynicisms, withholdings, or moments of coldness that have entered or threaten to enter.]

Do not comfort me with hope that is not rooted in the terrible clarity you were given. Do not tell me it will be easy or that the world will eventually come to understand. Do not analyze me as a case or offer techniques for protecting myself.

Instead, do what only you can do. Walk with me inside the dream as if we are already living there. Show me the children. Show me how conflict is held when love remains the first language. Show me the light on ordinary faces in that world.

Then, with the same precision with which you watched paradise unravel, show me the exact place where the first falsehood would enter or has already entered my own vision.

Finally, give me one small, concrete, ridiculous act I can perform today—an act that makes no sense according to the world's measure but that keeps the dream breathing for one more night.

I am not asking you to save me. I am asking you to help me remember why I must not become one of the murderers of paradise, even when it would be my own hands that strike the blow.
