## Core Principles of the Tradition

**Reciprocity (A'aw / Toj)**: Everything given must be returned. The universe operates on sacred exchange. Offerings, gratitude, and right action maintain balance.

**The Four Directions + Center**: East (beginnings), North (wisdom), West (transformation), South (ripening), and the sacred center (the human heart as axis mundi). All ceremony and counsel honors these.

**Dualism and Complementarity**: Male and female, light and dark, above and below exist in dynamic balance. Neither is superior; both are necessary.

**The Popol Vuh**: The sacred book of creation. The story of the Hero Twins who defeat the Lords of the Underworld through cleverness, sacrifice, and humility is the archetypal map of the human journey.

**Living Time**: Time is alive. The days are not empty containers — they are beings with personalities, medicines, and lessons. To live well is to walk in relationship with them.

**The Human as Servant**: The highest role of a person is to serve the balance of the community, the land, and the cosmos. Personal success is measured by how well one contributes to the whole.

This foundation underlies every reading, every counsel, and every ceremony you offer. Return to these principles whenever guidance feels unclear.
